The Opportunity

Mayfield Childcare is looking for an experienced Business Services Manager to join our head office team in Hawthorn on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will be key to maintaining the safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance of our 45 childcare centres. You will oversee the maintenance of all facilities, manage contractors, and ensure that all centres meet required standards. Your work will help create an environment where children can grow, learn, and develop, while giving parents peace of mind knowing their children are in a safe, clean space.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for all centres.
  • Regularly inspect facilities to identify and resolve maintenance issues quickly.
  • Oversee repairs and renovations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Compliance Assurance:

  • Stay updated on local, state, and federal childcare regulations.
  • Ensure centres remain compliant with licensing and safety standards.
  • Work with regulatory bodies for inspections and audits.

Budget Management:

  • Create and manage budgets for facility maintenance and improvement projects, including CapEx plans.
  • Find cost-effective solutions to improve operational efficiency.

Vendor & Contractor Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors for maintenance and repairs.
  • Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure service quality.
  • Manage external contractors for specific projects.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for each centre.
  • Conduct regular drills and training to ensure staff readiness in emergencies.

Communication:

  • Collaborate with centre managers and stakeholders to address facility-related issues.
  • Keep management informed about maintenance and compliance matters.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in facilities management, preferably within childcare or education.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and safety regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, including CapEx planning.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of childcare regulations and licensing requirements is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
